Try looking in your Programs Menu and then Ryzom. You will find a menu entry called 'Configure Ryzom'

9800pro128mb, no problems.
I get lag, but everyone does, not vid related.
OpenGL was a pain, don't use it.
If I play for a long time, framerate goes WAY down, especially in town. (memory leak most likely) I log out reboot, problem gone for a while.
Sucks though because it takes almost 3-5 mins to log back in!!

ATI cards

Post by lorgerol »

During the early stages of the Beta, Nevrax has found that players are having many different issues with ATI cards, such as graphics corruptions, crashes etc. It was very widespread and affected a large majority of ATI users. It turned out that there were several reasons for these issues, ranging from incomplete OpenGL support in ATI's drivers to bugs in ATI's drivers.
At this stage, the game was purely designed for OpenGL only.

Nevrax developers, in the spirit of the superb support that they normally provide, decided that they are going to go ahead and implement a Direct3D version, so that ATI users can use Direct3D instead of OpenGL. They have steadily progressed on this, and as far as I can see by today, the Direct3D support is now as good as OpenGL. In the meantime ATI has made some changes to their drivers too, so that OpenGL got better.

As far as I can see, there are hardly any issues with ATI cards now, so long as you play in Direct3D. If you want to change whether the game uses OpenGL or Direct3D, use the configuration tool for the game. I suggest however that you leave the setting on its default, which is auto-detect.

Irony. That is the word that best describes my experience with this game. I started a thread about ATI compatibility in the North American forum about a week ago trying to find a way to play this game with my ATI 85000 video card. After getting flamed for using a card that was "too old" even though it met the specs on the game's box, someone there suggested that I manually switch the settings to OpenGL, which sort of worked.

Unlike the auto or 3D settings, OpenGL allowed me to play the game, but only for short periods of 30-60 mins. before the graphics completely glitched, the screen froze, and I usually was dead when I logged back in.

But I was really liking the game, so I kept playing these short timespans and actually got my character up to 16 fighter/21 magic through patience and the hope that I would get a better video card and be able to play for longer periods.

Well, after a lot of scrounging for cash, I got an Nvidia 5700 LE today. After uninstalling my card and drivers and installing the new card, I now can't get past the login screen in any mode OpenGL, 3D, auto, nothing. OpenGL and auto both give my a C++ game crash message, and the 3D setting gets as far as the login screen, and then the graphics warp, flashing between normal colors and red. I have tried every setting in the configuration and double-checked everything on my system, and nothing works.

I have been gaming for years on all sorts of platforms, and NEVER have I had such frustration with a game.

So, after trying to play this game and be patient, I have canceled my subscription. I guess I'll have to just play CoH until EQ2, WoW, or some other game that doesn't have MASSIVE graphics incompatibility issues comes out.
