Re: Make Ryzom Open Source
Great, so what you´re saying is: "Some are playing unfair already, so let´s even out the field by making the unfair advantages available to all. And screw the consequences." *clap, clap, clap* What a great step into the "right direction". no my point was that it is already happening and isn't s ...

Re: Make Ryzom Open Source
Alot on Atys is based on the players personal knowledge of the world, its mechanics and not the players levels. If the game mechanics were completely open source I believe people would just go and read up on them to push everything to the technical limit and gain an advantage. A good example would ...

Not talking about the engine. I mean the game in its entirety.acridiel wrote:Ehm, you did notice this: http://dev.ryzom.com/?

Make Ryzom Open Source
After reading through the marketing forum 'Read ME First' post, I saw them mention the Firefox campaigns that were started to help Firefox get noticed. Part of the reason people were so motivated to spread Firefox was due to it being open source software. People who had worked on the browser felt ...

Re: The Atysian Subscription
You can either keep trying to annoy me, or you can try to contribute to a constructive discussion and realise that what I really want is to help both the games community and the new owners. Please point out where I wasn't being constructive in my discussion. You simply said I was wrong and offered ...

Re: The Atysian Subscription
2, This is way off, this changes and depends on the company and will never be the same. I can tell you right now, that John Smedley and Trond Arne Aas (SOE CEO AND FUNCOM CEO) are not in the same league paycheck wise. Just trust me on that. And furthermore, in a company like this, where you are ...

Re: The Atysian Subscription
As to totnkopf's numbers, I too don't think they are right - a financially struggling company is unlikely to pay its CEO $100K, nor its developers $60K. I don't disagree with you here and the the listing of numbers I had was for Amana/Nikopols statement that a company with 6 devs could easily be ...

Re: The Atysian Subscription
According to your estimate, they must have already spent half a million dollars since they started running the servers for free and implementing fixes and doing updates. Even if you cut everything in half given the game was not "live" and it would still be 250k. If anything you wrote in your post ...

Re: The Atysian Subscription
Say only 1 out of 5 can vote; with all of the new people, you have 2.000 subscribers, at 8 euros per month that makes 16.000 euros per month already. Still not enough to support old Nevrax's 50-odd people, but with that amount of money i believe you can have 6 payed devs working on the game and ...

Re: The game was ruined by community
I started playing in 2005. Soon after that, Nevrax took the decision to start forcing the implementation of PvP in Ryzom. I was a starting noob back then so i didnt much care, but i do remember how angry the players were, the forums were ablaze and an exodus followed. Whats left of the Ryzom ...
