I've been mostly toying with the character creator, now I am ready to actually play. Is there a -best- way to choose your starting package?

I have a dumb question to add:

What is the difference between the unlimited trial and the paid subscription? In other words, what am I not getting by playing just the trial?

Also can someone offer some advice as to which race/area is more newbie friendly? I was leaning towards Zorat or Tryker, but I can see where those races might be overplayed. Can someone reply and offer some insights?
