It would be safe to simply delete the Ryzom Beta directory. It would leave 1 or 2 registry entries, but nothing harmful. It wouldn't effect an install of the proper retail version if you did this (at least in my experience so far.)

They are not deleted initially. I believe there is a set time before which they are. I think it's something like 3 months, don't quote me on that though (Trying to remember details from a few days ago when playing around with my account *argh*)

The "upgrade" is simply to move your old beta account into a proper retail account so that you may keep the same character name.
