You have to compile the kernel yourself. It's not in the respository yet.
Follow the guide I posted above to do so.

ATI's drivers aren't up to par with NVidia so it's quite possible that it may not. Once we see some errors we may be able to figure out more. But, ATI is famous for having bad drivers.

Note: I didn't write this. I just edited it a bit to update it for the newest kernel version and a couple of settings that were left out which you'll need. If you follow the guide exactly, theoretically everything should 100% after compiling and booting into the kernel. This guide may help for other ...

Edit: fixed it.. sound works now! and it's pretty damn good too. thanks! if anyone is running ubuntu and considering this..well, it's not hard to do. after setting up wine/ryzom i compiled the 2.6.17.8 kernel following a guide over on the ubuntu forums. It took about 32 minutes to compile. Booted up ...

nope..wine is setup to use OSS. I ddin't have EAX checked though (I doubt that'll make much of a difference but can't hurt I guess). If I do have music playing other sounds do get blocked though. I have an onboard sound card and a sound audigy 2..both of which haven't had any compatibility problems ...

Ok so..I installed kernel 2.6.17.8, compiled WINE with the thread prio patch, setup everything in the client.cfg and I still don't have any sound. Those of you that have done this and gotten sound working..any tips on things I might've missed?

I'm running NVIDIA Linux x86 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-7174 as the 8 series seems to be having problems from what I've read. disabling vertex shaders, the config still crashes but the client just launched o-k. i'm at the login screen now. i'm going to try logging in and i'll see what happens. edit ...
