Having highbies in a game where alts are optional, if not useless, also makes it more difficult for the beginner crafter. Who is going to buy your QL 70 swords if most of the population is over 100?

That's what worried me the most about the mainland and why I am still staying on the noob island.

I took your advice and am glad I did. Plus I just got Harmful 40 so the island wasn't always good QL enough.

Now to find the fiber and Wood node spots! Yay!

Couple question : 1)What is a node? Is that the AREA where a specific source (say fibers) is located? Like a vein? For the modes, you mean extracting first with, say, a gentle lvl 20 up to a mats QL of 20 and then if there's time left use a harmful 30 to up the QL up to 30? This would change the mode when the QL of the mat being extracted reaches 20?
